Shuffling Horror Week 2015: Game 4+5

November 1st, 2015

Game #4 and #5 of the Zombie World Series 2015 went down at All Things Fun in West Berlin, New Jersey. Going into these final two games, Team Survivor was ahead by a single game. Team Zombie needed back-to-back wins to take the series lead. Here are the highlights from each game.

Game #4 began with The Kid Sister as a zombie appetizer before the game even began. A horrid start! Her demise was due to the Hold Them Back plot device card in the Opening Scene. This gave the players a glimpse on just how brutal The Game Of Shuffling Horror can be. It’s hard to say if this shock galvanized the team, but the Survivors completely annihilated the zombies from that point forward. As soon as the zombies were set up for attack, the team trimmed them back. Sorority Girl + Baseball Bat was shockingly effective, as was The Nurse, who had a knack for rolling Hard Four for her attacks (gaining her a damage bonus). These odd moments made the game so much fun!

SHW-15-Score-41Game #5 was a different story; it ended in the early moments of Reel 3. For most of the game, the Director maintained three healthy zombie throngs. By Reel 3, the Director was five throngs deep. One of the best parts of the game was the story. One player started with The Sorority Girl and then drew the Little Sister and Kid Brother. It was obviously her baby-sitting gig that was about to become a nightmare. She protected the kids as best she could (noting that this was way beyond her $10 an hour rate). In the end, both kids were lost and she found herself the Last One Standing. Somehow, she survived seven zombie attacks, winning one more game for Team Survivor. So much fun, but not for the zombies!

Shuffling Horror Week 2015: Game 3

October 29th, 2015

Game #3 started with an unstoppable wave of zombies, ripping their way through the Survivors. This had all the makings of a two reel movie, short and brutal. Yet, the plucky survivors managed to limp into Reel 3; each player had a single Survivor remaining (and only one had Rest spoints). Similar to Game #2, both Sanctuary cards came into play early; this time they were crucially needed for respite. However, the Director had four throngs in play – those sanctuaries wouldn’t last long. The players decided to move the entire group into The Cellar, in an attempt to “spoint up”. Previously damaged, The Cellar had only 9 hit points remaining. Miraculously, it withstood the first wave of attacks (and all the survivors gained three Rest points). Another wave of attacks came at the Cellar. Due to some misses and truly awful damage rolls, The Cellar held for one more round (its door held shut by a single point). The survivors all gained three more Rest points.

The first player was eliminated at the very end of Reel 3 and joined the zombie team at the start of Reel 4. This was a boon for the remaining two players, as the Turning Point was triggered (# of Zombie Players = # of Survivor Players). This immediately cleared the Reel Pile and left three cards between them and survival. Some times you just get lucky in a zombie apocalypse!

Shuffling Horror Week 2015: Game 2

October 28th, 2015

The grim loss of Game 1 galvanized the Survivors into a force to be reckoned with. While there were plenty of opportunities for the zombies to overwhelm the Survivors, bad dice rolls plagued their every action. On the other hand, the Survivors never missed a beat; as the zombie throngs pressed forward, they were obliterated. The Sheriff + Gas Cocktail was a devastating combo, but even the Kid Brother and Little Sister did their part to thin out the herd. Both Sanctuaries were in play by Reel 2, but neither were ever entered (that’s the kind of game it was). The Director’s only consolation was that, as the film faded to black, all co-op spoints were spent (the Survivors burned them all at the end of Reel 4 just for fun).

The Return of Shuffling Horror Week (2015)

October 22nd, 2015

SHW-15-SQR-SH-StoreShuffling Horror Week is baaaaaack!

For Halloween Week, the GameWick Gang will be shuffling into game stores and rolling out our Pittsburgh 68 zombies. Our whereabouts are found below (this list will be updated as new locations are announced).

Just like last year, we will keep track of the wins and losses for this Halloween mini-series. If you are running a game at home, we want to know about it! Last year, we had a ten game series that ended in a dead heat: 5 to 5.

All are invited to come by and join in a game session (or even just watch, gasp, and learn). Pittsburgh 68 typically takes an hour and a half to play. It is a zombie horror game, so parental guidance is suggested (in movie terms, the game would probably be rated PG-13). The game and its rules are geared toward mature gamers (who love zombies, cards, and dice).

Come on out and have some zombified fun with us. You’ll also get a sneak peek at the upcoming Shuffling Horror Shuffle Board!

Monday-Oct 26: Home Game Kickoff (Private Event)

Tuesday-Oct 27: Time Warp Comics & Games, Cedar Grove, NJ
Game session from 7pm – 9pm

Wednesday-Oct 28: Elite Battlegrounds, Greenbrook, NJ
Game session from 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Thursday-Oct 29:  Time Warp Comics & Games, Cedar Grove, NJ

Friday-Oct 30:  All In One Collectibles, Randolph, NJ
