We’re dropping some down-n-dirty basic shield rules into our WEGS Old Skool Fantasy games at Gary Con this year – and it’s about time! Of course, there…

Missed backing Innsmouth 32 this summer?!? That’s ok, because we did not fund. You’ll get one more chance to help bring this game to life…

March 4th for Gygax!

March 4th, 2018

It’s March 4th, Old Skool-ers! I’m taking a moment today to acknowledge the “life well played” of Gary Gygax (July 27, 1938 – March 4, 2008). He’s the reason I got hooked on roleplaying games back on Christmas ’79, when I unwrapped the Basic Dungeons & Dragons box set. Man, the adventures I’ve been on since then: from the Keep on the Borderlands straight through to our own GameWick Games booth at Gen Con Indy.

Yup – it’s all due to Gygax’s efforts to get D&D out into this world when he started his game company, TSR. My little game company and my wacky rpg system WEGS Old Skool is done in this same spirit. In fact, if you’re reading this, all credit goes right back to Mr. Gygax. Most of you reading this I’ve met at a gaming con – so, you know what I’m talking about. Some of you I will even see at this week’s Gary Con Gaming Convention (where the Gygax family holds a gaming weekend in his honor).

March 4th, friends!

L. Willy Wick

Thank you, Mr. Gygax!

Innsmouth 32: Shadows Over Gary Con

March 3rd, 2018

Exciting news! The third game in our Shuffling Horror series, Innsmouth 32, is steadily creeping forward… Our second beta deck is printed and we’ll be bringing it with us to Gary Con this month. While not officially on the event grid, we’ll be playtesting after our scheduled Shuffling Horror sessions conclude. Chances are the playtests will begin at midnite, in some shadowy secret location (so secret we will probably announce time/place on our GameWick Games Facebook).

As you can see in the pic, our beta deck features a shadowy H.P. Lovecraft on our card face mock-up. This is just a temp bit of fun – though he’s striking the perfect creepy pose. Lots of changes have been made to the original playtest deck (unveiled at Gen Con 2017). This deck features new full-color layout for the item and character cards with a creepy fish scale background (shown below). The updated action cards in the movie deck are sure to bring on the insanity, too!

The really big news is that all the ITEM art is finished – and looks awesome! We are now beginning the Character and Monster art phase. Still a long way to go here, but the thrills and chills are building…

Very bad things await those who stumble into old Innsmouth.

The No Roll Hero

March 1st, 2018

What’s a No Roll Hero, you ask?  It’s a basic character creation process for the WEGS Old Skool Fantasy RPG. This stripped-down version of our classic Ark Kard is designed for intro play (but also includes a nifty new mechanic called the Heroic Edge)! The No Roll Hero PDF introduces players to the basic rules of play and has them ready for action in mere minutes. Perfect for convention play!

The guide also introduces you to Gorgax The Barbarian,
illustrated in the classic old skool stylings of Brian “Glad” Thomas!

This is also a little sneak peek at our next WEGS Old Skool release – BOSS RULES.

What’s BOSS? The Basic Old Skool System, of course!
